Anthony Paul Ramos Martinez (born November 1, 1991) is an American actor and singer. He is famous for his roles in big musicals and movies. After studying musical theater, he started performing on stage.
In 2015, Anthony Ramos played two characters, John Laurens and Philip Hamilton, in the famous Broadway musical Hamilton. He was even nominated for an Emmy Award for his performance in the filmed version of the play in 2020.
Ramos also acted in the movie A Star Is Born (2018). He then starred in the musical film In the Heights (2021), which earned him a nomination for a Golden Globe Award. You might also know him from the action movie Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) and the disaster film Twisters (2024).

Growing Up and School
Anthony Ramos Martinez was born in New York City. His family is from Puerto Rico. He grew up in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn with his mother, older brother, and younger sister.
When he was in Halsey Junior High School, Anthony sang Motown songs with a student group called the Halsey Trio. He graduated from New Utrecht High School in 2009. Back then, he dreamed of playing college baseball and becoming a coach!
After high school, Ramos went to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. This is a special school for performing arts. He received a full scholarship and graduated from their musical theater program in 2011.
Acting on Stage and Screen
Starting in 2011, Anthony Ramos got roles in many musicals. One of his early roles was playing Usnavi de la Vega in a 2012 show of In the Heights.
In 2014, he auditioned for Hamilton while rehearsing for another show. He got the part! Before Hamilton officially opened, Ramos also performed in a short musical called 21 Chump Street.

Hamilton first opened off-Broadway in early 2015. Anthony Ramos played two characters: John Laurens and Philip Hamilton, who was Alexander Hamilton's oldest son. The musical then moved to Broadway in July 2015. Ramos left the show in November 2016.
In 2016, Ramos was cast in the Netflix TV series She's Gotta Have It. He played a character named Mars Blackmon. He also played Ramon in the 2018 movie A Star Is Born, which starred Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
In 2018, it was announced that Ramos would star as Usnavi de la Vega in the movie version of In the Heights. This movie came out in 2021 and was very popular with critics. In 2021, Ramos also got the main role in the Transformers movie, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which was released in 2023.
In 2022, Ramos was cast as Parker Robbins, also known as The Hood, in the superhero series Ironheart. This show is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2024, he was chosen to be the main voice in a new Bob the Builder animated movie. He also appeared in the movie Twisters in July 2024.
Music Career
Anthony Ramos was part of the original Broadway cast recording for Hamilton in 2015.
He worked with Lin-Manuel Miranda again in 2017 on a song called "Almost Like Praying." This song helped raise money for people affected by Hurricane Maria.
In November 2017, he released two songs, "Freedom" and "Common Ground," from his first solo music collection, called The Freedom EP. This EP came out in January 2018.
In 2019, Anthony Ramos signed with Republic Records. His first album, The Good & the Bad, was released in October 2019. His second album, Love and Lies, came out in June 2021.
Personal Life
Anthony Ramos met actress Jasmine Cephas Jones in 2014 while they were rehearsing for Hamilton. They started dating and got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2018 in England. They later ended their engagement.
In 2023, Ramos began dating Spanish singer Eva Ruiz. In February 2024, Anthony Ramos's family was featured on the PBS show Finding Your Roots, which explores people's family history.
