Anthony Albert Sadler Jr. (born July 13, 1992) is an American author and TV personality. He became famous for his bravery in August 2015. Along with his friends, Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone, he helped stop a dangerous attack on a train. This train was traveling from Amsterdam to Paris.

After this heroic event, Sadler appeared on many TV shows. He also co-wrote a book called The 15:17 to Paris. This book tells the story of what happened on the train. Later, a movie with the same name was made about their story. Sadler and his friends even played themselves in the film. He received several important awards for his courage.

A Heroic Act on a Train

On August 21, 2015, Anthony Sadler was on vacation in Europe. He was traveling with his childhood friends, Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone. They boarded a train called Thalys 9364. This train was going from Amsterdam to Paris.

During the trip, a 25-year-old man entered their train car. He was armed with a powerful rifle and had a lot of ammunition. Another passenger tried to stop him but could not. Sadler and his friends heard a gunshot and glass breaking. They saw a train employee running away, followed by the armed man.

Spencer Stone quickly reacted. He tackled the attacker, even though he was stabbed. Stone was hurt in his neck and eyebrow. Alek Skarlatos then grabbed the attacker's rifle. He used it to hit the man until he was unconscious. Skarlatos later said he was thinking about survival. He wanted to keep everyone on the train safe. Anthony Sadler and a British man named Chris Norman helped hold the attacker down. Sadler said the man kept asking for his gun back. But they kept him still until help arrived.

International Recognition

After stopping the attack, Sadler, Skarlatos, and Stone became known worldwide. Many people praised them for their brave actions. They prevented a much worse tragedy.

The President of France at the time, François Hollande, honored them. He gave Sadler and his friends France's highest award, the Legion of Honour. This award is for great military and civil achievements. President Hollande said the men "faced off with terror." He added that they "gave us a lesson in courage."

The White House in the United States also thanked them. President Barack Obama called the three Americans. He praised them for their heroic actions. A top U.S. military general, Philip M. Breedlove, also called them heroes. He said their actions showed great courage.

The mayor of Sacramento, California, Kevin Johnson, held a parade for them. This parade honored Skarlatos, Sadler, and Stone. Spencer Stone received two military medals. Anthony Sadler was given the Secretary of Defense Medal for Valor. This medal is for exceptional bravery.

In 2018, Sadler, Stone, and Skarlatos became citizens of France. This was another way France recognized their bravery.
