Sir Anthony St John was born into an important family. His father was Oliver St John, 3rd Baron St John of Bletso, and his mother was Dorothy Reid. The family lived in a place called Oddington in Gloucestershire.

Early Life and Education

Anthony went to Queens' College, Cambridge, a famous university, starting in November 1601. He was knighted, which means he received a special honor from the King, on August 5, 1608. This happened at Bletsoe, the family home. His brother, Alexander, also became a knight that day and later became an MP too.

It seems politics ran in the St John family! Besides Anthony and Alexander, four other brothers also became Members of Parliament. These were Oliver, Rowland, Henry, and Beauchamp.

Sir Anthony married Lady Katherine Herbert on April 24, 1610, in London. Lady Katherine was the daughter of Morgan Aubrey. They had two children:

  • A daughter named Dorothy, who later married Sir John Booth.

Changes at Fonmon Castle

The family home, Fonmon Castle, was sold in 1656 to Colonel Philip Jones.
