His Political Career
Wilson worked as a school teacher in Camden County, Georgia. He decided to run for election to the Georgia House of Representatives and won. While serving in the House, Wilson lived with his brother Hercules and another lawmaker.
Anthony Wilson continued to serve in the House even when his brother did not run for re-election. In 1885, Wilson introduced a bill. This bill aimed to stop racial discrimination in places like hotels, theaters, and circuses. However, the bill did not pass. Only three lawmakers voted for it, and they were all African-American.
By 1888, he was one of only two African-American lawmakers serving in the Georgia House. The other was S. A. McIvor. His last term in office was during the 1892–93 session.
