Antiochos Evangelatos (sometimes spelled Evanghelatos) (Greek: Αντίοχος Ευαγγελάτος; 1903  – 1981) was a Greek classical composer and conductor. He created beautiful music and led orchestras.

A Life in Music: Antiochos Evangelatos

Antiochos Evangelatos was born on December 25, 1903, in Lixouri, a town on the island of Cefalonia, Greece. From a young age, he showed a great talent for music.

He traveled to different cities to study music. He learned about composing and conducting in Leipzig, Basel, and Vienna. Some of his important teachers were Max Ludwig and Felix Weingartner.

After his studies, Evangelatos returned to Greece. In 1933, he began teaching music at the Hellenic Conservatory of Athens. He taught students how to compose music and how to use counterpoint. Counterpoint is a way of writing music where different melodies play at the same time, but they all sound good together.

In 1957, his fellow musicians recognized his leadership. He was chosen to be the president of the Union of Greek Composers. This showed how much he was respected in the music world.

Evangelatos's music often used themes from Greek folk music. He blended these traditional sounds with a Romantic style. This means his music often expressed strong emotions and had rich melodies.

Antiochos Evangelatos passed away in 1981 in Athens, leaving behind a legacy of wonderful music.
