Kellogg's snapdragon, also known by its scientific name Antirrhinum kelloggii, is a type of snapdragon flower found in the Americas. It's sometimes called Neogaerrhinum kelloggii too.
Where It Grows
Kellogg's snapdragon naturally grows in the California coastal hills and mountains. You can also find it in Baja California, which is part of Mexico. This plant likes to grow in many different natural areas. It especially thrives in places where there has been a recent wildfire.
What It Looks Like
This plant is a thin, spreading annual herb. This means it lives for only one year. It can sometimes grow like a vine, climbing onto nearby objects or other plants.
Its flowers grow one by one. Each flower sits on a very long stem called a pedicel. This stem can be up to 9 centimeters long and often coils or twists. The flower itself is a beautiful purple color with dark veins. It looks like a classic snapdragon and is usually more than a centimeter wide.
After the flower blooms, it forms a fruit. This fruit is a special kind of capsule that opens up when it's ripe. Inside, you'll find many bumpy seeds.
