Antoni Ros-Marbà (born in 1937) is a famous Spanish conductor and composer from Catalonia. He is known for leading many orchestras and helping to bring music to life.

Starting His Music Path

Antoni Ros-Marbà was born in 1937 in a city called L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, in Spain. He loved music from a young age. He began his musical studies at the Conservatori Superior de Música de Barcelona, a well-known music school.

He learned how to be a conductor from some very talented teachers. These included Eduard Toldrà, Sergiu Celibidache, and Jean Martinon. He even worked closely with Eduard Toldrà on an opera called Giravolt de maig. Ros-Marbà helped the singers with the piano, calling it a "wonderful moment."

Leading Orchestras

In 1966, Antoni Ros-Marbà won a competition to become the main conductor of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra in Madrid. This was a big step in his career.

The next year, in 1967, he became the main conductor for the Orquestra Ciutat de Barcelona. He led this orchestra for many years. Later, in 1978, he was chosen to be the music director of the Spanish National Orchestra. From 1979 to 1986, he also led the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra as its main conductor.

Between 2001 and 2013, Ros-Marbà conducted the Real Filharmonia de Galicia in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Special Musical Projects

Antoni Ros-Marbà has been part of many important musical events. In 1992, he helped with the first stage performance of Robert Gerhard's only opera, La Dueña. This show was performed at the Teatro de la Zarzuela and the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

In 2005, he created a new version of the national anthem of Catalonia, called Els Segadors. This new version was played by the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya and sung by the Orfeó Català. This was a special moment for Catalonia's National Day.

Some of Antoni Ros-Marbà's musical scores are kept safe in the Biblioteca de Catalunya. These scores include music he wrote when he worked with Esbart Verdaguer, a traditional Catalan dance group.
