Early Life and Training
Antonino Cannavacciuolo was born in Vico Equense, Italy. He went to a local hotel school to study cooking. His father, Andrea, who was also a cook, taught at the same school. Antonino finished his cooking studies in 1993.
After school, he gained experience in the Sorrento area. He also spent time working in two French restaurants in the Alsace region. These experiences helped him learn different cooking styles. He even worked at the Grand Hotel Quisisana in Capri.
Villa Crespi and Michelin Stars
In 1999, Antonino and his wife, Cinzia, took over a beautiful old mansion called Villa Crespi. It is located in Orta San Giulio by Lake Orta. Antonino became the head chef and owner there.
Villa Crespi quickly became very successful. In 2003, it earned its first Michelin star. This is a very important award for restaurants. Then, in 2006, it received its second Michelin star. In 2012, Villa Crespi joined a special group of luxury hotels and restaurants called Relais & Châteaux. The restaurant reached its highest honor in 2022 when it was awarded its third Michelin star. Only a few restaurants in the world have three Michelin stars!
Television Career
Antonino Cannavacciuolo became famous on television in 2013. He hosted the first season of Cucine da incubo. This show is the Italian version of a popular British TV program. He continued to host many more seasons of the show.
He also became a judge on MasterChef Italia. He first appeared as a guest in 2015. Then, he joined as a full-time judge for the fifth season (2015-2016). He has been a judge on every season since then. He is one of the most recognized judges on the show.
In 2017, he hosted a new show he created called O mare mio. This program explored different seaside towns. He also appeared on Ci pensa Antonino in 2017. In 2018, he was a judge on Celebrity MasterChef, where famous people competed.
Other Projects and Restaurants
In late 2015, Antonino opened a new place in Novara called Cannavacciuolo Café & Bistrot. It serves food from breakfast to late evening. He also started the Cannavacciuolo Academy. This academy teaches people about running a restaurant business.
Antonino has been a guest on many TV and radio shows. He even helped create a "Christmas Menu" for a charity called Amref Health Africa in 2016. In July 2017, he opened another restaurant, Bistrot Cannavacciuolo, in Turin.
