Antonio Adán Garrido, born on May 13, 1987, is a Spanish professional footballer. He plays as a goalkeeper, which means he protects his team's goal.
Antonio started his football journey at Real Madrid when he was young. He mostly played as a backup goalkeeper there. Later, he spent a big part of his career playing for Betis. He played in 129 matches in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league, for these two clubs. He also played for Atlético Madrid. Antonio also played abroad for Cagliari in Italy and won two league titles with Sporting CP in Portugal.

Starting at Real Madrid
Antonio Adán grew up in Madrid, Spain. He joined the famous Real Madrid youth academy. From 2005 to 2006, he was the main goalkeeper for their "C" team. He played 36 games and only let in 29 goals. He also helped the youth team win the Champions Cup, keeping a "clean sheet" (meaning no goals were scored against him) in the final tournament.
In August 2006, Antonio was chosen to join the first team for their tour in the United States. He was a backup goalkeeper for Real Madrid Castilla, which is Real Madrid's reserve team.
Antonio made his first professional appearance in the Segunda División (Spain's second division) on August 27, 2006. This was a 1-1 draw against CD Castellón. He played in six league matches that season.
By the 2009-10 season, Antonio was the third-choice goalkeeper for Real Madrid's main team. He was behind famous goalkeepers like Iker Casillas and Jerzy Dudek.
First Team Appearances
On December 8, 2010, Antonio played his first official game for Real Madrid. He came on as a substitute in a UEFA Champions League match against AJ Auxerre. Real Madrid won that game 4-0. The next month, he played a full 90 minutes in a Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup) match against Levante UD.

Moving to Cagliari
On September 2, 2013, Antonio left Real Madrid. On November 19, he signed with Cagliari Calcio, a team in Italy. He made his Serie A (Italy's top league) debut on January 5, 2014, in a 0-0 draw.
Success at Betis
Antonio returned to Spain on January 27, 2014, joining Real Betis. He quickly became an important player. In his first full season (2014-15), he played 40 games. He helped his team win the second-tier championship, which meant they were promoted back to La Liga.

Time at Atlético Madrid

On August 20, 2020, Antonio moved to Sporting CP, a club in Portugal. He joined them for free. He became a very important player for Sporting. In the 2020-21 season, he helped them win their first Primeira Liga (Portugal's top league) title in 19 years! He kept 20 clean sheets and only let in 19 goals in 32 matches.
In November 2021, his contract was extended until 2024. Antonio won another league title with Sporting at the end of the 2023-24 season. He was injured in the last two months of that season, but he still played in 22 games, helping his team achieve the victory.
Antonio Adán's International Career
Antonio Adán also represented Spain at different youth levels.
In July 2006, he was the captain of the Spain under-19 team. He led them to win the UEFA European Championship. Four other players from Real Madrid were also on that winning team.
Later, he was called up to the under-21 squad. He played his only game at this level on February 6, 2007, in a friendly match against England.
