Antonio David Jiménez Pentinel (born on February 18, 1977, in Seville, Spain) is a Spanish long-distance runner. He is especially good at the steeplechase, which is a running race with obstacles and water jumps.

Antonio Jiménez is famous for winning the gold medal in the 3000-meter steeplechase. This happened at the 2002 European Athletics Championships in Munich, Germany. He was the first non-Finnish or non-French winner of this event in a long time. He also competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, reaching the final in the same event. In 2006, he finished 5th in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the European Championships in Gothenburg.

  • In 2005, he earned another silver medal at the Mediterranean Games in Almería, Spain, for the 3000-meter steeplechase. He also placed 6th at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics in Helsinki, Finland.

Antonio continued to compete in major events, including the 2007 World Championships in Athletics in Osaka, Japan, and the 2012 European Athletics Championships in Helsinki, Finland. He always showed great dedication to his sport.

A Challenge in His Career

In 2014, Antonio Jiménez faced a difficult time in his career. He was suspended from sports for three years because of an issue with a banned substance. This meant he could not compete during that period.
