Antonio Folc de Cardona y Enriquez was an important Spanish nobleman who lived in the 1500s. He served as the Viceroy of Sardinia from 1534 to 1549. A Viceroy was like a governor who ruled a region or country in the name of the king or queen. Antonio passed away in 1555.

Antonio was the son of Joan Ramon Folc de Cardona, 1st Duke of Cardona. His father was a very powerful noble who was given the title of Duke by King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabel I of Castile in 1482. His mother was Aldonza Enriquez y Fernandez de Quiñones, a noble lady from Elche and Crevillente.

Family Life

Antonio Folc de Cardona y Enriquez married Ana Maria de Requesens y Enriquez. Her father was Galceran de Requesens, 1st Count of Palamós, who was a famous seafarer and naval commander.

Antonio and Ana Maria had seven children together. They had two sons and five daughters:

  • Juan de Cardona y Requesens: Their eldest son became a Baron and later served as the Captain General of the Galleys (ships) in Sicily and Naples. He also became a Viceroy, ruling Navarre from 1595 to 1610. He had children.
  • Margarita Folch de Cardona y Requesens: Their daughter Margarita married a nobleman named Adam Herr zu Dietrichstein-Nikolsburg. Their family was closely connected to Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor. Margarita passed away in 1609. She also had children.
  • Francesc de Cardona
  • Anna de Cardona: She became the Baroness of Sant Boi de Llobregat. Anna married twice and had children who lived in Sardinia.
  • Beatriu de Cardona: She had children who became part of the nobility in Spain and Calabria.

  • Joana de Cardona
