Antonio Maurice Lang, born on May 15, 1972, is a well-known American basketball player and coach. He used to play professional basketball. Now, he is an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Antonio Lang played college basketball at Duke. While there, he helped his team win two NCAA championships in a row. These wins happened in 1991 and 1992.
Early Life and College
Antonio Lang was born in Columbia, South Carolina. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama. In 1990, he graduated from LeFlore Magnet High School. He was the top student in his class. The year before he graduated, he helped his high school basketball team win a state championship.
Lang had a very successful college basketball career at Duke. He was part of a Duke team that reached the Final Four three times. They won two national championships during his time there.
Playing in the NBA and Beyond
The Phoenix Suns picked Antonio Lang in the 1994 NBA draft. He was the 29th player chosen overall. However, he didn't play much in his first year. This was because of a knee injury. In 1995, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Lang also played for other NBA teams. These included the Toronto Raptors, Philadelphia 76ers, and Miami Heat. He also played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He was named to the All-CBA Second Team in 1998. Later, he played in the Philippine Basketball Association for the Red Bull Thunder.
In 2001, Lang started playing for the Mitsubishi Melco Dolphins in Japan. This team is now called the Mitsubishi Diamond Dolphins. He played there until 2006. Foot problems caused him to stop playing basketball professionally.
Becoming a Coach
After he stopped playing, Antonio Lang became an assistant coach for the Mitsubishi Diamond Dolphins. On May 19, 2010, he was promoted to head coach of the team.
In June 2014, Lang was hired as an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz. He joined the coaching staff of Quin Snyder. Snyder also played basketball at Duke University. On June 19, 2019, Lang became an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Most recently, on June 14, 2023, the Atlanta Hawks hired him as an assistant coach.
