Antonio de Zúñiga y Guzman (born around 1458, died 1533) was an important Spanish leader. He was a high-ranking member of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, a famous group of knights. Antonio also served as a general for the Royal Army. He led forces against a big uprising called the Revolt of the Comuneros. Later, from 1523 to 1525, he became the Viceroy of Catalonia, which meant he was like a governor for the King in that region of Spain.

Antonio de Zúñiga y Guzman came from a powerful family in Spain. His father was Pedro de Zuñiga y Manrique de Lara, who was the 3rd Count of Plasencia.

His mother, Teresa de Guzman y de Guzman, passed away in 1458. After that, Antonio's stepmother was Isabel de Zuñiga y Pimentel.

Antonio's Diplomatic Work

Antonio de Zúñiga also played a role in important international talks. In 1519, he was part of diplomatic meetings held in Montpellier, France. These meetings involved important leaders like Mercurino Gattinara and representatives of King Francis I of France.

Fighting in the Comuneros Revolt

In 1521, Antonio de Zúñiga became a general for the Royal Army. He led soldiers during the Revolt of the Comuneros. This was a time when many towns in Spain rebelled against the King.

Antonio's army fought in important battles and actions in places like Torrelobaton, Villalar, and Toledo. His leadership helped the King's forces put down the rebellion.
