Anwar Hossain (born October 6, 1948 – died December 1, 2018) was a famous photographer and filmmaker from Bangladesh. He was known for his amazing work behind the camera. He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Cinematography five times! This was a record for his great films like Sundori (1979) and Lalsalu (2003).

Early Life and Education
Anwar Hossain was born in Old Dhaka in 1948. He went to Armanitola Government High School. Then he studied at Notre Dame College, Dhaka. He finished school in 1967.
Later, he studied architecture at BUET. He also got a special diploma in cinematography. Cinematography is the art of making movies. He learned this at a film institute in Pune, India.
Career as a Photographer and Filmmaker
Anwar Hossain began his photography career in 1967. His photos showed important moments from the Bangladesh Liberation War. This was a very important time for Bangladesh.
He worked as a cinematographer for many films. He helped make 15 fiction films and 30 documentary films. A cinematographer is the person who plans and shoots the camera work for a movie. They make sure the film looks great.
Personal Life
Anwar Hossain was married to Dolly Anwar in 1979. She was a film actress and writer. Later, he moved to France. In 1993, he married a French woman. They had two sons together.
Later Years and Passing
Anwar Hossain was found in a hotel in Dhaka on December 1, 2018. He was staying there because he was a judge. He was helping to pick winners for a photography competition.
