Apache's Past: A Look at Its History
Apache is famous for being the place where the Geronimo Surrender Monument stands. This monument remembers the spot where Geronimo, a famous Apache leader, surrendered. His surrender marked the end of major conflicts between Native American tribes and the United States Army.
Over the years, Apache has become much smaller. In 1940, about 38 people lived there. By 1960, the number had dropped to just 15 residents.
Learning in Apache: The Local School
Even though Apache is a small place, it has its own school! Apache Elementary School is a special one-room schoolhouse. In 2018, only eight students were enrolled there.
