Apiastrum angustifolium is a type of flowering plant. It is the only species in its group, called Apiastrum. People often call it mock parsley because it looks a bit like parsley.
This plant grows naturally in California and Baja California. You can find it in many different places there.
What Is Mock Parsley?
Mock parsley is an annual plant. This means it grows, flowers, and dies within one year. It has a main root that grows straight down, called a taproot.
From this root, a stem grows up to about half a meter (about 20 inches) tall. The stem branches out, making the plant look bushy.
Leaves and Flowers
The plant has many leaves along its stem. Each leaf can be up to 5 centimeters (about 2 inches) long. They are divided into many thin, narrow parts.
Mock parsley produces several groups of flowers. These flower groups are called inflorescences. They often grow where a leaf meets the stem.
The flowers grow in a special shape called a compound umbel. This looks like an umbrella with many tiny flowers on it. Each small flower has five white petals that are pointed.
Where Does It Grow?
Mock parsley is native to North America. It is found in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. Specifically, it grows in:
- California, USA
- Baja California, Mexico
It can live in many different types of environments. This shows how tough and adaptable the plant is!
