Apizaco is an important city in the state of Tlaxcala, Mexico. It is located near the middle of the state. The city is about a 25-minute drive from Tlaxcala City, the state capital.
Apizaco is a key city because of its location. It's on the main railroad line between Mexico City and the port of Veracruz. The city actually started because of this railroad!
Today, Apizaco is the second most important city in Tlaxcala. It's a big center for business and trade. This is because it sits right in the middle of the road connecting Mexico City and Veracruz.
In 2005, Apizaco city had about 49,459 people living there. The whole area around the city, called the municipality, had 73,097 people. The municipality covers an area of 56.83 square kilometers (about 21.94 square miles). It includes smaller towns like Santa Anita Huiloac and San Luis Apizaquito.

What's in a Name?
The name "Apizaco" comes from the Nahuatl language. This was the language spoken by the Aztec people. The name combines three words:
- "ātl" (meaning water)
- "pitzāhuac" (meaning thin)
- "co" (meaning place)
So, "Āpitzāco" roughly means "thin water place."

Getting Around Apizaco
Apizaco is an important place for travel. The Ferrosur railway line goes right through the city. There are also plans to build a new, larger international airport near Apizaco. This new airport would help reduce air traffic at Mexico City's busy airport.
