Appletiser is a sparkling fruit juice that tastes like apples! It's made by mixing real fruit juice with bubbly, carbonated water. This yummy drink was first created in 1966 in a beautiful place called the Elgin Valley in South Africa. A French-Italian immigrant named Edmond Lombardi came up with the idea.

Appletiser is very popular in South Africa, where it was invented. But it's also sold in more than 20 other countries around the world. You can find it in places like the United Kingdom, Belgium, Spain, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

The Story of Appletiser

How Appletiser Started

In 1966, Edmond Lombardi began making his sparkling fruit juice. He mixed fruit juice with fizzy water to create Appletiser. His business was located in the Elgin valley in the Western Cape, South Africa. Just a few years later, in 1969, Appletiser started being sold in other countries. The first places to get it were the Canary Islands in Spain and Japan.

Changes and New Flavors

In 1979, The Coca-Cola Company bought half of the Appletiser business. This was a big step for the brand. A few years later, in 1981, new flavors called Red and White Grapetiser were launched. These were sparkling grape juices.

In 1982, Appletiser was introduced in the United Kingdom. However, it was first called "Appletise" there. This was because another company owned the name "Tizer" for their soft drink. They didn't want people to get confused.

By 1995, Appletiser released two special citrus flavors. These were "Orangetise" and "Lemontise." They were only available for a limited time.

Becoming Appletiser Worldwide

After many talks, the company was finally able to add the "r" back to the name in the UK in 2001. This meant that Appletiser could use the same name and packaging everywhere. It made the brand easier to recognize around the world.

In 2013, the Appletiser brand was fully sold to The Coca-Cola Company by SABMiller. Now, Appletiser and other "-tiser" drinks are made under a special agreement. This agreement is with Appletiser South Africa (ASA), which is part of Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA).

In May 2017, CCBSA announced another change. They sold a part of their share in Appletiser SA to a company called African Pioneer Group. They also sold a smaller part to Sipho Excellent Madlala, who had worked at CCBSA for 20 years.

What's in Appletiser?

Appletiser and Grapetiser are made with no added sugar or extra colors. They come in different sizes, like small cans and larger bottles. You can find them in 750ml, 250ml cans (in the UK), 150ml cans, 275ml, 330ml, 350ml, and 1.25l sizes.

There's also an Appletiser Colours range, which includes Pink and Amber flavors. These drinks have 80% fruit juice and 20% water. They are available in 350ml and 1.25l sizes.
