Araby is a place in Yuma County, Arizona, United States. It is now part of the larger city of Yuma. This area is about 217 feet (66 meters) above sea level.
Discovering Araby
Araby started as a stop along the Southern Pacific Railroad. This railroad had a famous route called the Sunset Route. Trains would stop here on their long journeys.
How Araby Got Its Name
The name "Araby" was chosen because the area looked a lot like an Arabian desert. It has a dry, sandy landscape, much like the deserts found in Arabia.
Where is Araby Located Now?
Even though Araby was once a separate place, it is now inside the city limits of Yuma. You can find it where Arizona State Route 195 (also known as Araby Road) meets the railroad tracks. It's also very close to Interstate 8, a major highway.
