Arachis is a group of about 70 different kinds of flowering plants. These plants are mostly found in South America. They belong to the Fabaceae family, which is also known as the pea or bean family.
The most famous plant in the Arachis group is the peanut (Arachis hypogaea). Peanuts are a very important food crop all over the world. Some other Arachis species are also grown for food in South America. Other types, like A. pintoi, are grown around the world to feed animals. Their leaves are full of protein for livestock. These plants also help the soil by adding nitrogen, which is good for farming.
Some Lepidoptera species, like moths, eat Arachis plants. This includes moths like the flame shoulder and the turnip moth.

Different Types of Arachis Plants
The Arachis group has many different kinds of plants, called species. Scientists group these species into smaller categories called "sections." This helps them organize and study the plants better.
