The Aragonese Party (its name in Spanish is Partido Aragonés, often called PAR) is a political party in Spain. Its main goal is to look after the interests of Aragon, which is a region in Spain.
The party started in 1978. Back then, it was called the Aragonese Regionalist Party. In 1990, they changed their name to Aragonese Party, but they kept the short name PAR. One of the people who helped start PAR was Emilio Eiroa. He later became the leader of the government in Aragon from 1991 to 1993.
PAR also had representatives in the European Parliament for a few years, from 1999 to 2004. This is where countries in Europe work together on important issues.
What is the Aragonese Party?
The Aragonese Party is a group of people who share similar ideas about how Aragon should be governed. They believe in something called Aragonese regionalism. This means they think Aragon should have more power to make its own decisions. They also follow Conservatism, which generally means they like to keep traditional values and ideas.
The party is usually seen as being in the middle of politics, or a bit to the right of the middle. This means their ideas are not too extreme on either side.
How the Party Has Done in Elections
The Aragonese Party has taken part in many elections in Aragon. These elections decide who gets to be in the Aragonese Corts, which is like Aragon's parliament.
Over the years, the number of seats PAR has won has changed. For example, in the 1980s, they won many seats and were quite strong. They even led the government in Aragon for some time, sometimes working with other parties like the People's Party (PP) or the Socialist Party (PSOE).
In the most recent election for the Aragonese Corts in 2023, the Aragonese Party won 1 seat out of 67. This means they still have a voice in the regional government.
