The Arasalar River is an important river in southern India. It's like a smaller arm that branches off from the much larger Cauvery River. This river helps bring water to many areas, especially for farming.

Where the Arasalar River Begins

The Arasalar River starts its journey from the famous Cauvery River. The Cauvery River is one of the biggest rivers in South India. When the Cauvery River enters the Thanjavur district from Tiruchirapalli, it splits into five different smaller rivers. The Arasalar River is one of these five branches.

How the Rivers Split

At a village called Pullambadi, the flow of the Cauvery River is controlled by a structure called the Lower Anaicut. An "Anaicut" is a Tamil word that means "dam" in English. This dam helps to manage the water and direct it into different channels. From a town named Thiruvaiyaru, which means "the place where five rivers separate," the Arasalar River officially branches off from the main Cauvery River.

Journey to the Sea

After separating from the Cauvery, the Arasalar River flows through various regions. It eventually reaches the coastal town of Karaikal. From Karaikal, the Arasalar River flows into the Bay of Bengal. The Bay of Bengal is a large part of the Indian Ocean. Rivers flowing into the sea are very important. They carry fresh water and nutrients, which support many plants and animals.
