Arata Sugiyama (杉山 新, Sugiyama Arata, born July 25, 1980) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender for several teams in Japan's professional football leagues. These teams included Kashiwa Reysol, Ventforet Kofu, Omiya Ardija, Yokohama FC, and FC Gifu.
Arata Sugiyama's Football Journey
Arata Sugiyama was born in Kasukabe, Japan, on July 25, 1980. He began his professional football career in 1999. He joined Kashiwa Reysol, a team in Japan's top league, the J1 League. In his first few years at Kashiwa Reysol, he didn't play many games.
In 2003, Arata moved to Ventforet Kofu. This team played in the J2 League, which is Japan's second-highest professional football league. At Ventforet Kofu, he started playing much more often. He became a regular player from 2005, playing as a right-side defender. His team, Ventforet Kofu, was promoted to the J1 League in 2006. This meant they moved up to the top division. However, they were relegated back to the J2 League in 2008.
In 2010, Arata joined Omiya Ardija, a J1 League club located in his home area of Saitama Prefecture. He continued to play many games as a right-side defender for two seasons. In 2012, he moved to Yokohama FC, a team in the J2 League.
His last move was to FC Gifu, another J2 League club, in 2013. He played regularly in 2013. However, he didn't play much in 2014. Arata Sugiyama retired from professional football at the end of the 2014 season.
