Arboletes is a town and a municipality in Colombia. It is located in the Urabá region of the Antioquia Department.
The town is next to the Caribbean Sea to the north. It also borders the department of Córdoba to the north and east. To the south and west, it borders the municipality of San Pedro de Urabá. The municipalities of Turbo and Necoclí are also nearby.
Arboletes is about 502 kilometers (312 miles) from Medellin. Medellin is the capital city of the Antioquia Department. The whole municipality covers an area of 710 square kilometers (274 square miles).
Arboletes has 8 rural areas called corregimientos. These are El Carmelo, La Trinidad, Naranjitas, El Guadual, La Candelaria, Buenos Aires, Las Platas, and Pajillal.

What Does the Name Arboletes Mean?
The name "Arboletes" means "land of trees." This name comes from the past. Long ago, this area had many forests.
However, most of these forests were cut down. This happened to make space for raising cattle. Even so, some rainforest areas still exist. These wild areas are what gave the municipality its name.
A Brief History of Arboletes
Arboletes is now a municipality in the Antioquia Department. It became a municipality after a land disagreement. This dispute was between Antioquia and its neighbor, the department of Córdoba.
The town of Arboletes was started in 1920. It was founded by José Torres Vargas and José María Reales. At first, it was a small area (a corregimiento) of the municipality of Turbo, Antioquia. Arboletes officially became its own municipality in August 1958.
What is the Economy of Arboletes Like?
Arboletes is mainly a place for raising animals. This is called livestock farming. About 90% of the land in the municipality is used for this.
Farmers in Arboletes raise different animals. These include cattle, pigs, goats, and horses. People also grow crops here. Some of the main crops are bananas, yams, cassava, maize (corn), rice, and various fruits.
Explore the Mud Volcano
Arboletes is famous for its unique mud volcano. This volcano is found in the Santa Fe de la Plata corregimiento.
The mud volcano has erupted a few times, for example in 2006 and 2010. The mud inside is very thick. This means that people can easily float and swim on its surface!
Many tourists from all over the world visit this place. It is well-known for its special mud. Some people believe the mud has health benefits.
Climate in Arboletes
Arboletes has a tropical savanna climate. This type of climate is also known as Aw. It means the area has two main seasons.
From December to March, there is little to moderate rainfall. Then, from April to November, there is heavy rainfall. The weather is generally warm all year round.
