Archduke Joseph Árpád Benedikt Ferdinand Franz Maria Gabriel (Hungarian: Habsburg–Lotaringiai József Árpád) was born on February 8, 1933, and passed away on April 30, 2017. He was a member of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, a very old and important European royal family. Joseph Árpád was part of the Hungarian branch of this family. This meant he held the title of Archduke of Austria and Prince of Hungary and Bohemia.
Early Life and Family Roots
Joseph Árpád was born in Budapest, which was then part of the Kingdom of Hungary. His father was Archduke Joseph Francis of Austria. His mother was Princess Anna of Saxony. He was also the great-grandson of Archduchess Gisela of Austria. This shows his strong connections to many royal families across Europe.
Education and Learning
Joseph Árpád studied economics at the University of Lisbon in Portugal. This shows he was interested in how countries manage their money and resources.
His Own Family
Joseph Árpád married Princess Maria von Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg. They had two wedding ceremonies in 1956. First, a civil ceremony on August 25, then a religious one on September 12 in Bronnbach, Germany.

- Archduchess Monika-Ilona Maria Carolina Stephanie Elisabeth Immacolata Benedicta Dominica of Austria (born 1959). She married Charles-Henry de Rambures in 1996 and has a daughter.
- Archduke Joseph Karl Maria Árpád Stephan Pius Ignatius Aloysius Cyrillus of Austria (born 1960). He married Princess Margarete of Hohenberg in 1990. They have four children.
- Archduchess Maria Christine Regina Stephania Immacolata Carolina Monika Ägidia of Austria (born 1963). She married Raymond van der Meide in 1988. They have seven children.
- Archduke Andreas-Augustinus Maria Árpád Aloys Konstantin Pius Ignatius Peter of Austria (born 1965). He married Countess Marie-Christine von Hatzfeldt-Donhoff in 1994. They have six children.
