Archer is a small city in Alachua County, Florida, United States. It's part of the larger Gainesville area. In 2020, about 1,140 people lived there.
The city got its name from James T. Archer. He was the very first Secretary of State for Florida.

A Look at Archer's History
Archer started as a small village in the 1840s. People called it either Deer Hammock or Darden's Hammock. In 1850, it officially became a city.
Trains first arrived in Archer in 1859. The Florida Railroad came through in 1858. This caused the town to move a bit to the east. That's when the city was renamed Archer.
