Archibald Hamilton (born July 15, 1740, died February 16, 1819) was an important Scottish nobleman and politician. He was known as the 9th Duke of Hamilton and 6th Duke of Brandon.

Early Life and School Days
Archibald Hamilton was the second son of the 5th Duke of Hamilton. His mother was Anne Spencer. He went to a famous school called Eton.
Archibald's Political Journey
In 1768, Archibald Hamilton became a member of parliament. He represented the area of Lancashire. He held this position until 1772. Later, in 1799, he inherited his family titles. He also became the Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, a role like a county representative for the King.
Horse Racing Achievements
Archibald Hamilton loved Thoroughbred horse racing. He was a very important person in this sport. Between 1786 and 1814, his horses won the St Leger Stakes seven times. This is a major horse race held at Doncaster.
His Family Life
On May 25, 1765, Archibald Hamilton married Lady Harriet Stewart. She was the daughter of the 6th Earl of Galloway. They had five children together:
- Lady Anne (1766–1846)
- Alexander Hamilton, 10th Duke of Hamilton (1767–1852)
- Lord Archibald Hamilton (1769–1827)
- Lady Charlotte (1772–1827), who married the 11th Duke of Somerset
- Lady Susan (1774–1846), who married the 5th Earl of Dunmore
Archibald Hamilton passed away in 1819. His oldest son then became the next Duke.
