The Tasmanian redspot is a type of dragonfly found only in Tasmania, Australia. Its scientific name is Archipetalia auriculata. It is the only known species in its group, called a monotypic genus. This means it's the only one of its kind in the Archipetalia genus. It belongs to the dragonfly family called Austropetaliidae.
What it looks like and where it lives
The Tasmanian redspot is a medium-sized dragonfly. It has a bit of a hairy body. Its colors are usually brown and yellow.
This special dragonfly lives only in Tasmania, which is an island state of Australia. When we say it's "endemic" to Tasmania, it means you won't find it naturally anywhere else in the world! It likes to live near streams and wet, marshy areas called seepages.
