Exploring Archway Station's History
Archway station first opened its doors on 22 June 1907. It was originally called Highgate. This was before the area became known as Archway. The station was built by the Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway.
Why Did the Name Change?
The station's name changed to Archway (Highgate) in 1939. This was to avoid confusion with the nearby Highgate station. Then, in 1947, it became simply Archway. This name comes from the famous Archway Bridge nearby.
