History of Arcola
The name Arcola might come from the Choctaw language. A language expert named Keith Baca thinks it means "jar."
In the early 1900s, a person named Leroy Percy owned a large farm called Trail Lake Plantation. This farm was located close to Arcola.
In 2015, an author named Paul Theroux wrote a travel book. In his book, Deep South: Four Seasons on Back Roads, he described Arcola as a "ghost town." This means it felt very quiet and empty to him.
