Arden is a small unincorporated community located in Barbour County, West Virginia. An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Arden is found along the Tygart Valley River in the north central part of the state.
History of Arden
Arden grew up around the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad tracks. A special narrow-gauge railroad was first built through this area in the early 1880s. This helped the community develop. At one time, Arden even had its own post office.
Natural Landmarks
The community is located between two interesting rock formations. These natural landmarks are known as Hell's Gate and Devil's Den. They add to the unique landscape of the area.
Famous People from Nearby
- Ida Lilliard Reed (1865–1951) was a well-known hymnwriter. She lived close to Arden.
