Ardon Bess is a talented Canadian actor born in 1941. He is well-known for his roles in Canadian television and films. Many people recognize him from a Heritage Minutes short film where he played Maurice Ruddick. Maurice Ruddick was a real-life survivor of the 1958 Springhill mining disaster. Ardon Bess also played a fun character named Nestor "The Jester" Best in the popular TV show King of Kensington.
Early Life and Starting Out
Ardon Bess was born in a place called Kingstown, which is in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. After finishing high school there, he worked as a bank teller. Before moving to Canada, he was already acting and directing plays in his hometown. He loved theatre!
In 1964, Ardon Bess moved to Canada and first lived in Oakville, Ontario, with his father. He briefly studied architecture at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto. One day, a classmate encouraged him to try out for an acting role. This happened after a soccer practice they were both at. After that audition, Ardon Bess got his very first professional acting job! He played Sakini in a play called The Teahouse of the August Moon. Because he loved acting so much, he left Ryerson to study at the famous National Theatre School of Canada.
His Acting Career
Ardon Bess has had a long and successful career in acting. He has appeared in many different films and television shows. Besides his famous roles in Heritage Minutes and King of Kensington, he was also in shows like Trailer Park Boys and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. He also acted in movies such as How She Move, Take the Lead, and Prom Night.
He has also received awards for his acting. He was nominated for a Gemini Award for his role in a film called One Heart Broken Into Song. This award is a big deal in Canadian television and film. In 2000, he won a Golden Sheaf Award for his amazing performance as Don in the short film My Father’s Hands. This award was for being the best male actor in that category. Ardon Bess continues to be a respected actor in Canada.
