Kingstown is the capital and largest city of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It's a very important place because it has the main port and is the biggest business center for the islands. In 2005, about 25,148 people lived there. The city was started by the French in 1722.

History of Kingstown
The city of Kingstown was founded by French settlers a little after 1722. Even though the French started it, the island of Saint Vincent was ruled by the British for 196 years before it became an independent country.
The botanical garden in Kingstown is one of the oldest in the Western hemisphere. It was first thought of in 1765. A famous person named William Bligh, known from the story of the Mutiny on the Bounty, brought seeds of the breadfruit tree to plant here around 1793.
