Arenas is a special area, like a neighborhood, in the town of Cidra, Puerto Rico. It is called a barrio in Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 6,123 people lived there. Arenas is located within the municipality of Cidra.
History of Arenas
Arenas has an interesting history. Long ago, Puerto Rico was part of Spain. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
In 1899, the United States government counted the people in Puerto Rico. At that time, Arenas barrio and a nearby area called Beatriz barrio had a combined population of 997 people.
What are Sectors?
Barrios, like Arenas, are often divided into smaller local areas. These smaller areas are called sectores (which means sectors in English). Think of them as smaller parts of a neighborhood.
The types of sectores can be different. Some are simply called sector. Others might be called urbanización (a planned housing area), reparto (a land division), barriada (a settlement), or residencial (a residential complex).
