Arguta is a small, unincorporated community located in Dale County, Alabama, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county's government.
A Look Back in Time
Arguta got its name from another community called Argura. That Argura is located in Jackson County, North Carolina. It's interesting how places can share names! For a period, from 1891 to 1906, Arguta even had its own post office. This was a central place for people to send and receive mail in the community.
Who Lived Here?
Arguta itself has never been counted separately in the official U.S. Census. However, from 1910 to 1950, the area was part of what was known as the 5th precinct of Dale County. This precinct was named after the Arguta community.

U.S. Decennial Census |
The numbers above show how many people lived in the Arguta precinct during those years. In 1960, this precinct was combined with other areas. This happened as part of a bigger plan to reorganize the counties into new census divisions. The Arguta precinct became part of the larger Ozark census division.
