Ariane's Life Story
Ariane Daguin was born on March 12, 1958. Growing up, she often helped her father prepare food. This helped her learn many skills that she later used to start D'Artagnan in America.
In 1978, Ariane moved to America. She studied at Columbia University in New York City. While going to school, she worked part-time for a company that made pâté (a type of spread).
In 1985, Ariane saw a chance to sell special duck products from the Catskills area of New York. This led her to start D'Artagnan. As her company grew, it began selling other poultry. These animals were raised without hormones, in cages, or under stress.
In 1988, Ariane had her only child, a daughter named Alix Daguin.
Ariane has appeared on many TV shows and podcasts. She was also featured in many articles. She was on Anthony Bourdain's show, No Reservations, in 2017. Anthony Bourdain even named his daughter after Ariane.
Starting Her Career
At first, D'Artagnan supplied meats and poultry to famous chefs. These chefs included Daniel Boulud, David Burke, Patrick Clark, and Jean-Louis Palladin. Patrick Clark was the first Black chef to win a James Beard Foundation Award.
D'Artagnan was the first company in America to sell fresh special duck products. It was also one of the first to sell organic chicken in the US. This was even before the USDA had clear rules for what "organic" meant.
Growing Her Business
D'Artagnan's Growth
In August 2005, Ariane bought out her business partner. After this, D'Artagnan grew very quickly. In 2008, the company made $50 million in sales. By 2019, its sales grew to $130 million.
Important steps for the company included creating the Rohan duck breed in 2011. They also opened four more warehouses and places to send out products.
The D'Artagnan Farms Foundation
All for One One for All Farm
In 2021, Ariane and her daughter Alix started AOOA Farm. This is a non-profit group based in Goshen, NY. It focuses on regenerative agriculture (farming that helps the environment). It also teaches about farming and food.
