Erigeron arisolius, also known as arid throne fleabane or dry-sun fleabane, is a type of flowering plant. It belongs to the daisy family, which includes many familiar flowers like sunflowers and daisies. This plant naturally grows in the southwestern United States, specifically in Arizona, and in northwestern Mexico, in the state of Sonora.

About Arid Throne Fleabane

Erigeron arisolius is a fascinating plant that can grow as an annual or a perennial. An annual plant lives for only one growing season, while a perennial plant lives for more than two years. This plant can reach a height of up to 70 centimeters (about 26 inches).

Plant Structure and Leaves

The arid throne fleabane has a thick taproot. This is a large, main root that grows straight down into the soil, helping the plant find water deep underground. The leaves of the plant change shape depending on where they are on the stem. Near the bottom, the leaves are shaped like a spatula. Higher up on the stem, they become thin and look more like threads.

Flowers and Colors

One Erigeron arisolius plant can produce many small flower heads. Sometimes, it can have as many as 50! These flower heads grow at the ends of long, thin branches. Each flower head is actually made up of many tiny flowers.

Inside each head, you'll find two types of florets:

  • Ray florets: These are the petal-like parts that surround the center. For Erigeron arisolius, these can be white, pink, or even a light lavender color. There can be a lot of them, usually between 125 and 180 in each head.
  • Disc florets: These are the small, tightly packed flowers in the center of the head. They are typically yellow.
