Armand-François Marie Cillart de Suville was a French Navy officer. He was born in Séglien, France, on February 1, 1730. He passed away in Jersey on June 30, 1801, at the age of 71. He is known for his service during the American Revolutionary War, also called the War of American Independence.

Armand-François Cillart de Suville came from an important family. His father was a captain in a dragoon unit, which was a type of soldier who rode horses. Two of his brothers, Étienne-François de Cillart de Villeneuve and Jean-Marie de Villeneuve Cillart, also joined the Navy.
Cillart began his naval journey in 1746. He started as a Garde-Marine, which was a young officer trainee in the French Navy.
Serving in the Seven Years' War
During the Seven Years' War, a big conflict that involved many countries, Cillart served on a ship called the Robuste. This was a large warship with 74 guns. He was on this ship in 1759.
Later, he joined an expedition to Newfoundland with Admiral Charles-Henri-Louis d'Arsac de Ternay. He served on a fast ship called the frigate Licorne during this mission.

Cillart continued to work hard and move up in the Navy.
