Armando Merodio's Football Journey

Armando Merodio was born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. His father was a famous pelota player. Pelota is a traditional sport similar to handball.

When Armando was three years old, his family moved to the Basque Country. This is where he learned to play football.

Starting His Career

Armando began his professional football journey with a team called Barakaldo CF. He quickly showed his talent. Soon after, he joined Athletic Bilbao, a very famous club. He was allowed to play for them because he learned his football skills in the Basque region.

Big Moments with Athletic Bilbao

Armando made his first appearance in La Liga on March 11, 1956. La Liga is Spain's top football league. He even scored a goal in his very first game! Athletic Bilbao won that match 2-1 against Atlético Madrid.

In that same season, 1955–56, his team won both the La Liga title and the Copa del Rey. The Copa del Rey is a major cup competition in Spain.

He left Athletic Bilbao in 1963. He had played 104 official games and scored 39 goals for the club.

Later Career and Retirement

After leaving Athletic Bilbao, Armando joined Real Murcia. He played there for two seasons. In his second season, the team was moved down to a lower league.

Armando finished his football career in 1967. He was almost 32 years old. He played one year each for Recreativo de Huelva and SD Indautxu. Both of these teams were in the second division of Spanish football.
