The community was not always called Armbrust. It was first known as Weaver's Old Stand. In the late 1880s, the name was changed. It was renamed after a person who worked as the postmaster, whose last name was Armbrust.

About two miles north of Armbrust, there is a place called Central Cemetery. It is also known as Feightner Cemetery. In this cemetery, you can find many old gravestones. Twenty-nine of these gravestones have the last name Armbrust on them. The oldest gravestone with the Armbrust name belongs to Margaret G. Armbrust. She passed away in 1895.
