Swiss-Armenians are people who live in Switzerland and have Armenian family roots. This means they are part of the Armenian ethnic group, but their home is Switzerland.

We don't know the exact number of Armenians in Switzerland. In a 2010 survey, 612 Swiss citizens said they were Armenian. However, it's thought that between 3,000 and 5,000 Armenians live in Switzerland in total.

Their Faith

Most Swiss-Armenians belong to the Armenian Apostolic Church. This church has four main areas in Switzerland: Geneva, Zurich, Neuchatel, and Lugano.

A smaller number of Swiss-Armenians are part of the Armenian Catholic Church. There are also a very small number of Armenian Evangelicals.

Community Groups

Many Armenian groups work in Switzerland to help their community. Here are some of them:

  • Union Arménienne de Suisse (UAS) is the largest Armenian group in Switzerland. It is based in Geneva. Every year, they organize a big European tournament in Geneva for different Armenian communities.
  • Union Genérale Arménienne de Bienfaisance (UGAB)
  • Association de secours arménienne de Suisse was started in 2006.
  • Armenischer Verein Zürich is an Armenian group in Zurich. It was created in 2005.
  • Association des Dames Arméniennes - Genève is a women's group in Geneva. Since 1986, they have published a newspaper called Artzakank. It is written in both French and Armenian.
  • Switzerland-Armenia Association (Association Suisse-Arménie / Gesellschaft Schweiz-Armenien) is a major group for Armenians in Switzerland. It is based in Bern. This group helps to keep Armenian history, culture, and identity strong.
  • Centre Arménien de Genève is a community center in Geneva, close to the Saint Hagop church.
