Armstrong was started in the year 1878. It was named after a person named Thomas H. Armstrong. He was a politician from Minnesota. A politician is someone who works in government. Thomas H. Armstrong helped build a grain elevator in the area. A grain elevator is a tall building used to store grain, like corn or wheat.
A post office also opened in Armstrong in 1878. People used this post office to send and receive mail. The post office stayed open for many years. However, it closed down in 1957.
