Arne Georg Fredrik Weise (born February 28, 1930 – died September 25, 2019) was a very well-known Swedish journalist and TV presenter. He was famous for hosting many shows on Sveriges Television (SVT), which is Sweden's main public TV channel. He started working at Sveriges Radio in 1952 and then joined SVT in 1979.
Arne Weise's Early Life
Arne Weise was born in Malmö, a city in Sweden. He grew up in Malmö and another city called Gothenburg. After high school, he went to university in Uppsala and Gothenburg. He even lived in Italy for a couple of years when he was younger.
Arne Weise's TV Career
Arne Weise was most famous for hosting the SVT Christmas Eve broadcast. He did this for many years, from 1972 to 2002! When he turned 65 in 1995, he said he would stop hosting the Christmas show. But so many people wanted him to continue that he stayed on for seven more years!
He also hosted other popular shows like Ett med naturen, which was about nature, and Minnenas television, which showed old TV clips.
In 2002, Arne Weise released a music album called Minnen, drömmar och lite till. It had thirteen songs that he wrote himself. He also hosted a music show on Sveriges Radio called Svensktoppen. In 1982, he even acted in a TV series called Skulden.
Arne Weise was also a popular speaker and host for many events. He even lent his voice to a film in 2010 called Sveket mot minkarna, which talked about the conditions of minks on farms in Sweden. The amusement park Liseberg also used his voice for their Christmas commercials.
In 2013, Arne Weise won a special award called a Kristallen for his amazing work in television. It was an honor award for his long and successful career.
Arne Weise's Family Life
Arne Weise had five children. His son, Andreas Weise, is a singer who became famous after appearing on the TV show Idol in 2010.
In 2007, something very unusual happened to Arne. While he was filming the opening of a wolf area at Kolmården Wildlife Park, a wolf attacked him. Luckily, he was okay!
Arne Weise passed away peacefully on September 25, 2019, when he was 89 years old.
