Journeys Across the Sea
The Arno was owned by the Nourse Line. This company used the ship mainly to carry people from India to other countries. These people were called indentured labourers. They agreed to work in a new country for a set time. This often helped them pay for their journey.

A Grounding Incident
In 1896, the Arno had a small accident. It was being pulled by another boat. This happened when it was arriving at West Hartlepool in England. The ship had come from Bremen in Germany. The Arno got stuck on the ground, but it was later freed.
A Mysterious Disappearance
In 1910, the Arno was sold to new owners in Norway. Three years later, on October 10, 1913, the ship left Fredrikstad in Norway. It was heading for Pernambuco in Brazil. Sadly, the Arno was never seen or heard from again. No one knows what happened to the ship or its crew.
