The Arnoia River is an important river in Galicia, a region in northwest Spain. It is a tributary of the Miño River. A tributary is a smaller river that flows into a larger one.
The Arnoia River is about 84.5 kilometers (or 52.5 miles) long. This makes it the longest river in the Ourense province. The river flows through beautiful valleys. These valleys are also home to a special Spanish wine region called Ribeiro DOP.
Where the Name Comes From
The name Arnoia has a very old history! People first wrote about the "Arnogie territory" in the year 889. Later, in 936, they mentioned the "Arnogie River."
Experts believe the name "Arnoia" comes from an ancient European word. This word is linked to the idea of "flowing" or "moving." So, the name simply means "the flowing river."
