Arnold is a small, unincorporated community located in Ness County, Kansas, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's found along K-4, which is a state highway, and is northwest of Ness City.
History of Arnold
Arnold was once an important stop for trains on the Missouri Pacific Railroad. This railroad helped move goods and people across the country. Being a "station and shipping point" meant that trains would stop here to pick up or drop off things. This was often farm products from the area.
The community also had its own post office. The first post office in Arnold opened around 1902. A post office is where people send and receive mail. This one served the community for over 100 years before it closed in 2006.
Education in the Community
Students in Arnold are part of the Western Plains USD 106 public school district. A public school district is a group of schools managed by the local government. The high school for this district is called Western Plains High School. Their sports teams are known as the Bobcats.
The Arnold School itself closed in 1969. Before that, in 1960, Arnold became part of the Ransom school district. Later, in 2004, two school districts, Ransom USD 302 and Bazine USD 304, joined together. This created the current Western Plains USD 106 district.
