This arrondissement is quite new! It was created on January 1, 2015. Before that, there were two separate areas called the Forbach arrondissement and the Boulay-Moselle arrondissement. They were joined together to form this single, larger area.

The Forbach-Boulay-Moselle arrondissement is in the north-central part of the Moselle department. It shares a border with Germany to the north. Other French arrondissements surround it. These include Sarreguemines to the east and Sarrebourg-Château-Salins to the south. Metz is to the southwest, and Thionville is to the west.
Size and Population
This arrondissement covers an area of about 1,283 square kilometers (495 square miles). It's the second largest of the five arrondissements in the Moselle department. In 2014, about 245,222 people lived here. This means it has a population density of about 191 people per square kilometer.
