History of Ariège's Arrondissements

The way the Ariège department is divided has changed a few times since it was first created.

  • 1790: The department was first set up with three districts: Mirepoix, Saint-Girons, and Tarascon.
  • 1800: These districts were changed into the arrondissements we know today: Foix, Pamiers, and Saint-Girons.
  • 1926: The arrondissement of Pamiers was removed for a while.
  • 1942: The arrondissement of Pamiers was brought back.
