Arrondissements of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department facts for kids
France is divided into different areas to help manage the country. One type of area is called a department. The Meurthe-et-Moselle department, for example, has 4 smaller areas inside it called arrondissements. You can think of an arrondissement like a district or a borough in other countries.
Each arrondissement has a main city, which is like its capital. This capital city is called a subprefecture. If the main city of the whole department (which is called a prefecture) is also in an arrondissement, then that city acts as both the department's capital and the arrondissement's capital.
Arrondissements are further divided into even smaller areas called communes. These are like towns or villages.
