Arroyo Del Agua is a small community located in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, United States. It sits at an elevation of about 6,834 feet (2,083 meters) above sea level. This community is found along the north bank of the Rio Puerco river, right where it meets its smaller helper river, Salitral Creek.
History
Arroyo Del Agua has a special place in history. It was mentioned as a stopping point in the travel plans of Antonio Armijo. He was an explorer who, in 1829-1830, helped create an important trade route. This route was called the Old Spanish Trail. It connected Santa Fe, New Mexico all the way to Mission San Gabriel in California. So, Arroyo Del Agua was a key spot for travelers on this historic trail.
